Sheridan HS Football Team Preparing For Home Game Vs. Kelly Walsh; Big Horn And Tongue River Travel To Burns And Newcastle

The 2024 Wyoming High School Football Season will reach the halfway point after this week, and coaches at the 3 Sheridan County schools are getting their teams ready for another big week of conference games.
Sheridan is the lone team at home tomorrow night as the Broncs entertain Kelly Walsh, who has been one of the surprise teams of this season.
The Trojans are 3-1 and ran for 369 yards last week against Thunder Basin.
Sheridan Coach Jeff Mowry says he knows KW is a run heavy team and since running plays tend to chew up more time on the clock, the Broncs have to do 2 things.
Make sure that the opposition doesn’t hog the ball and get them off of their game plan
“They’re a ball control offense, they’re going to try to keep the score close and run the clock and that’s scary for our offense, so when we have the ball we’ve got to be able to make hay and get points and our defense has got to find a way to get off of the field and not allow them to chew up tons of clock and run the ball all the way down the field. They are a heavy run first team. They run the ball 90% of the time and so if you get up by 2 scores and you run the clock, like they have done their offense, it’s really hard to catch up. The clock runs fast, it’s just a slower progression to go get points on the board and so it’s critical for our offense to be able to go get points on the board and put them in an uncomfortable spot, make them throw the ball, make them run plays that they’re not as well rehearsed at, so that we can get them out of their comfort zone and when they do that, then we’re in a good spot.”
Kickoff in Sheridan is scheduled for 6pm tomorrow.
Big Horn will make the long road trip to Burns tomorrow.
Last week sophomore Cruz Hernandez scored 5 touchdowns, 4 on offense and 1 pick-6, as the Rams demolished Newcastle 50-7.
As for the opposition the Broncs have been on the road the past 3 weeks, and after getting blown out by Lyman at the start of the trip, the team has righted the ship to some degree.
BH Head Coach Kirk McLaughlin says it’s about a 350 mile trip one way and if the team lets the travel bother them, Burns will take advantage of it.
“They got some good athletes. They got a really good wide receiver that can really go get the ball. They’ve got some good football players over there. The biggest thing is that we’ve got to travel well. We got to go and treat it like a business trip. We got to go and make sure we get off the bus and play hard from the very get go. They’re going to be a motivated team and so we’ve got to be ready to go.”
Kickoff at Burns is scheduled for 6pm tomorrow.
As for Tongue River, taking injuries into consideration, last week the team moved around enough of the right players to make things work and get a shutout win at home vs. Moorcroft.
Now the Eagles are on the road this week for a Saturday game against Newcastle.
TR Coach Steve Hanson says he expects the Dogies to recover from last week’s blowout loss against Big Horn and be the toughest team that the Eagles have played so far this season.
“They got some last name recognition. They got a sophomore, Crabtree, and anybody who knows anything about 2A Wyoming football, knows the name Crabtree out of Newcastle and they’ve got a McConkey. They’ve got some legitimate players that can take the lid off the defense and they’ve got some boys who push the piles, so it’s going to be a really solid matchup of can we contain them while moving the ball on their really really formidable defense.”
Kickoff at Newcastle is scheduled for 1pm Saturday.
