Morning Sports: June 5, 2025
Buffalo Hosting WY HS State Finals Rodeo: For the 2nd time in 3 weeks, the Johnson County Fairgrounds will be hosting the Wyoming High School Rodeo Circuit, but this time, it’s for the saddle and the belt buckle.
Today, tomorrow and Saturday are the State High School Finals, as cowboys and cowgirls will try to qualify for the High School National Finals Rodeo.
Competition today and tomorrow starts at 9am and 6pm.
Those that go this morning, will have their second run tomorrow night and vice-versa.
Saturday’s final round starts at 9:30am.
Cowboys and cowgirls earn points based on what place they finish in for their respective event at each rodeo, during last fall and this spring seasons.
The top 4 after Saturday will qualify for the High School National Finals Rodeo, which will take place next month at Rock Springs.
Looking at the standings, Katie Rice of Buffalo is currently 5th in the barrel racing.
Kamry and Karly Davis are 7th and 8th respectively and both within striking distance.
Kamry is 3rd in the Breakaway Roping, but it’s a tight race in that event.
Kolby Smith of Sheridan is sitting in 4th place in the Bull Riding, and Bleu Butler of Big Horn is 3rd in Goat Tying.
Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers will play their next several games in Rapid City, South Dakota beginning today.
The team is scheduled to take on the Billings 406 Flyers at 4:30pm.
Tomorrow, they play at 9am vs. Chadron, Nebraska, and at 11:30am vs. Sturgis, South Dakota.
Saturday at 9am they’ll take on Gering, Nebraska.
The rest of the schedule is dependent on what goes on in those 4 games.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies not only won their first series of the season, the team also got its first sweep.
The team won at Miami yesterday 3-2.
The Rocks are off today and return home tomorrow to start a 6-game homestand with 3 games against the New York Mets, followed by 3 vs. San Francisco.
NBA Finals: Game 1 of the NBA finals is tonight between Indiana and Oklahoma City.
Tip off is scheduled for 6:30pm.
There is a Wyoming connection to this game.
James Johnson who played his High School ball at Cheyenne East, plays for the Pacers.
He’s been in the NBA for 15 years and this is his first shot at a championship.
NHL Stanley Cup Finals: Edmonton won at home vs. Florida 4-3 in overtime last night, in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Oilers were down 3-1 at one point, then rallied to tie the score, and then got the winner on a power play with about 31 seconds to go in the overtime period.
Game 2 is tomorrow at Edmonton starting at 6pm.
