Morning Sports: July 1, 2025
Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball team were road warriors during the month of June.
The team played 24 games last month and only 2 of them were at home.
Dominic Destefano says all that time away from home is going to help the team prepare for what lays in wait at the end of July.
Tanner Hamrick says it doesn’t really matter if the game is home or away, as long as players play the game.
The Troopers play their next 10 games at home, with 6 of them in a 5-day stretch.
The team hosts Jackson for a conference double-header on Thursday, and then hosts Cody for a non-conference DH on Saturday.
On Monday, Laramie is in town for a pair of conference games.
The AA State Tournament starts in about 4 weeks at Cheyenne.
Mountain West Conference Sports: This time next year, the Mountain West Conference will look a lot different.
To recap, Colorado State, Utah State, Boise State, Fresno State and San Diego State will leave to join the PAC-12.
UTEP will be one of the teams taking their place and Hawaii will become a member in all sports, not just football.
Northern Illinois will be a football only member, while UC-Davis and Grand Canyon University will join in all sports except football.
UC-Davis has elected to stay in the Football Championship Subdivision, and Grand Canyon does not have a football program.
As for PAC-12, the conference just beat the NCAA deadline and added Texas State, so it can be officially recognized as a conference next year.
A conference has to have a minimum of 8 teams to be recognized, and the PAC-12 was set in every sport, except football, because Gonzaga does not have a team.
When other teams left the PAC-12 for greener pastures, the NCAA put the conference on 2 years of probation, and gave the conference a deadline of yesterday to get back to 8 members.
The Mountain West and the PAC-12 are currently engaged in legal disputes regarding poaching penalties and exit fees.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were off yesterday.
The team starts a 3-game series today, tomorrow and Thursday at home vs. Houston.
First pitch today is scheduled for 6:40pm.
On Friday the Rocks start a 3-game home series vs. the Chicago White Sox.
