Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter found new homes for over 190 dogs and 160 cats in 2020
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter Director Jill Moriarty informed listeners that not only have adoptions from the shelter found new homes in far away states but internationally.
In the 2020 year the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter adopted 197 dogs, 161 Cats, 10 Rabbits, 8 Chickens, 2 Hamsters, 9 Guinea Pigs and 5 Ferrets. On average, the shelter houses 144 animals a day.
Moriarty reported that the shelter also:
• Stray Intakes: 278 (includes dog and cats)
• Surrender Intakes: 212 (Includes dogs and cats)
• PD intakes (incarcerations, deceased and brought in by the PD: 325
• Number of Strays converted to Adoptions: 158
• Median number of days strays are housed: Small Mammals: 35 Dogs: 27 Cats: 61
• Issued 303 reduced cost spay and neuter certificates.
• 4 Rabies Quarantines (Dogs) 1 Rabies Quarantine (Cat)
• 18 Bats & Skunks taken in and sent for Rabies testing
According to Moriarty, it is vital that the shelter reaches out to communities in other states to find homes for the constant supply of new inventory.

Great Job!!! We adopted our dog from The Dog and Cat Shelter and he came in from another state. We dearly love our Gunner (aka Orca)!
