Sheridan Man Sentenced in District Court for Multiple Charges

A sentencing hearing was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court for 55-year-old Johnny J. Johnson of Sheridan. On March 21 of this year, Johnson led Sheridan Police and Wyoming Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase on Highway 87 that resulted in officers employing a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, or TVI to stop the 2007 Chrysler Sebring that Johnson was driving. The maneuver caused the vehicle to veer off of the roadway and overturn. Johnson attempted to hit several officers with his vehicle while driving double the speed limit. Johnson was charged with two felonies, Aggravated Assault and Battery and Property Destruction, and seven misdemeanors that include four counts of Reckless Endangering, one count of DUI, one count of Eluding, and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine.
District Court Judge John Fenn accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached with the State and sentenced Johnson to 3 to 6 years in prison on the Felony Aggravated Assault and Battery charge, suspended in lieu of a split-sentence of 240 days in jail and three years of supervised probation. Johnson was sentenced to 90 days in jail for the Property Destruction charge which was amended to a misdemeanor, which will run concurrent to the sentence for the felony charge. He was also sentenced to 180 days in jail on each of the four counts of Reckless Endangering and 180 days for DUI. All of the sentences will run concurrent to one another. The charges of Eluding and Possession of a Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Judge Fenn also ordered Johnson to pay 2,260 in various court and attorney fees and $4,217 in restitution.
