Active fire behavior on Bradley Fire held in check by BLM Fire Crews, Richard Mountain Fire 90% contained

Weather continues to work against crews battling fires throughout the state but the Bradley fire grew by only 100-acres due to firefighter efforts and aviation support as the Richard Mountain Fire comes under containment.

Crews and air support held the Bradley Fire along the northern section of the Long Creek drainage as it tried to burn towards Tin Cup Creek and Little Long Creek. The Bradley fire is currently 1,700 acres and 10% contained.  

According to a Bureau of Land Management press release, today crews will focus on strengthening fire lines, conduct mop-up operations, and protect valuable resources. Wildland firefighters will directly engage the fire if there is a high probability of success and risk to personnel is manageable. Evacuations remain in effect along Long Creek due to accessibility issues and active fire operations. The forecast calls for another day of red flag weather conditions in the area. 

The Bradley Fire started at approximately 2:30 p.m. on August 7, 2020. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Minimal Fire activity occurred on the Richard Mountain Fire and crews were able to achieve 90% containment on Saturday, Aug. 9. The BLM Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team is also working to demobilize units assigned to the fire and prepare to turn management of the incident over to a local Type 4 team.

Although dangerous red flag weather conditions remain it is unlikely that fire crews will need to directly engage the fire. The Richard Mountain Fire is now estimated to be 7,633 acres and is not expected to grow due to fire activity. The fire is located about 5 miles north of Dutch John, UT or 50 miles south of Rock Springs, WY.

The closures along Browns Park Road and the “B” portion of the Green River between the Little Hole and Indian Crossing boat ramps have been lifted. Motorists traveling along Browns Park Road are being asked to drive slowly and be aware that firefighting equipment and personnel are still present in the area.

The Richard Mountain Fire began at approximately 2 p.m. on August 3, 2020 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
