CHAPS Equine Assisted Services offers an array of programs that help people with physical, mental, psychological and social needs.

According to Executive Director Kristen Marcus, horses are unique in that they can attend to human needs. The program serves people of all ages, veterans and through the Alphabet Soup Group, CHAPS serves first responders.

The work of first responders and law enforcement, no matter the agency, is critical to the public. These jobs come with high-stress and tension causing work fatigue, burn out, anxiety and even depression.

The Alphabet Soup Group, funded by the Hughes Charitable Foundation, was designed to help law enforcement and first responders through camaraderie and equine assisted therapy. This program has been developed specifically to serve the men and women who serve their community. Alphabet soup is for all law enforcement, first responders (fire, EMT, etc.) and frontline medical professionals (ER nurses, physicians, etc.) and their spouses.

The Alphabet Soup Group meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights at CHAPS Equine Assisted Services, located at 501 U.S. Highway 14 East.
