Clearmont Town Council met on Monday, March 21, with several items on the agenda.
Mayor Rohrer reported that he was interviewed by Hugh Cook from Wyoming PBS, who is working on a documentary featuring Clearmont. Rohrer said that Cook asked him where he wanted to see Clearmont going. “I’m not sure when the documentary will be out,” he added.
He also reported that redistricting bill, which could mean that Clearmont would be represented by Campbell County representatives instead of Sheridan County, is not yet decided. “I hope we stay where we are,” Rohrer said. “I wrote Senator Kinskey a thank you for his efforts on this matter.” He also added that the water well #3 project is moving towards completion.
The council welcomed Shawn Parker of Sheridan Travel and Tourism, who spoke to the council about how they are promoting Sheridan County, as well as Clearmont, to tourists. He said that travel has been down due to Covid in the past couple of years, but Sheridan’s tourism was down less than surrounding counties. Cody was down significantly because many of the summer bus tours canceled.
Another thing Parker felt helped Sheridan keep ahead of the game in advertising is the fact that they can create content in house, rather than waiting for a larger advertising organization to do it. “We are the only travel ad tourism program in state that has it’s own videographer and photographers on staff instead of depending on a firm that handles several other states.” he said. He added that while occupancy in Sheridan county was down 26% during the Covid, revenue from tourism was only down 7%. “This is largely due to us targeting individual travelers.”
He was optimistic about the upcoming summer season for Sheridan County.
Parker also mentioned that the Combat Veteran’s Motorcycle Association Conference last summer was a great success.
Major Rohrer asked about the possibility of the re-establishment of passenger train travel, and Parker said if he heard anything he would keep the council informed.
Kyle Mercer and Katherine Leavitt of Cloud Peak Accounting in Buffalo reported to the board on the audit, saying a few things need to be addressed, but overall the audit was pretty clean. The council discussed some ideas to help address the issues so they would not be repeated in the next audit.
Ryan Kerns, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, was also a guest but no problems were addressed.
