Auditions for CTG to Present Female Version of “The Odd Couple”
Sheridan’s Civic Theatre Guild will wrap up its 70th season this May with Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple: Female Version,” with auditions scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17-18, at the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center.
Originally premiering on Broadway in 1965, “The Odd Couple” was adapted into a 1968 film starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau and later into a television sitcom that ran from 1970 to 1975. In 1985, Simon rewrote the play to feature a largely female cast after criticism that he had not created enough leading roles for women, retaining the story of two mismatched divorced roommates navigating life together.
Co-directors Kathleen Lundberg and Shari Peddicord will oversee auditions, with roles available for six women ages 25-65 and two men ages 25-50. The male roles require performers comfortable using a Spanish accent.
Auditions are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17 and 18, in the second-floor lab space at the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center due to an ongoing production of “Steel Magnolias” at the Carriage House Theatre.
Rehearsals will begin Monday, March 23, in the WYO second-floor classroom space before moving to the Carriage House Theatre in April. Performances are scheduled for May 15-17, 22-24 and 29-31 at the Carriage House Theatre.
