If you get a “tax refund” you are overpaying into the gov’t thru with-holding. You gave the gov’t too much of your money and the “refund” is just the return of your money, with no interest.
You, in effect, gave the gov’t an interest free loan, starting in January of the previous tax year. Is it wise to let the gov’t keep your money that long without paying you interest?
Can you afford to overpay the gov’t instead of using your money for your needs.
Better to adjust your with-holding to break even, or pay a small amount. That way you get to use more of your money for your own needs thru-out the year.
