The Sheridan Community Land Trust will host a public information meeting for Johnson County landowners from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Johnson County Public Library Twing Room in Buffalo. The meeting will focus on conservation easements and practical land conservation options available to local families.

According to SCLT Marketing and Development Contractor Chris Vrba, the session will provide an overview of how conservation easements work and how they can help preserve working lands, wildlife habitat and open space while supporting agricultural operations. The voluntary agreements are designed to help landowners maintain their property’s long-term use while protecting its natural and scenic value.

According to SCLT, expanding into Johnson County reflects the close connection between the two counties, where many families live and work across both areas. The organization, which has served the region for more than 20 years, said its program can help address past limitations that prevented some landowners from accessing conservation tools due to ranch size or financial constraints.

The land trust reports the effort will complement SCLT’s ongoing work in Sheridan County while offering additional support to Johnson County landowners interested in long-term stewardship.
