Josephine “Anne” Carrel McKinney, 83, of Broadus, MT, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, after a long fight with Parkinson’s disease.
Born on February 24, 1941, in Miles City, MT, Anne was the daughter of the late Jack and Josephine Brown Carrel. She graduated from high school in Sheridan, WY, in 1959, earned a business degree in college, and married Bill McKinney in 1963. Together, they pursued their dream of training and producing Quarter Horses and raising their children on the Brown family 4D ranch in Birney, MT. Throughout her life, she loved her family, horses, cattle, and ranch. She was an amazing horsewoman and a mother to many, and she loved sharing her knowledge with younger generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Grady Matthew Bonham. Her surviving family includes her husband, William “Bill” F. McKinney; siblings, John Carrel (Laurie), Bill Carrel (Alicia), Sarah Clifford (Tom), and Charlie Carrel (Hilary); daughter, Jennifer Bonham (Peavy); son, Matthew McKinney (Shari); and 5 grandchildren: Nate McKinney (Anna), Colton McKinney (Kayla), Tori Hawkins (Buddy), Caitlyn Bultje (Derek), and Hayli Ward (Andrew), along with 15 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held in Sheridan during the week of Wyo Rodeo. Details will follow. Please email mckinneyranch@msn.com if you would like to be notified. In place of flowers feel free to bring a fond memory of Anne to share.
