Margaret Clara Pierce
Margie C. Pierce of Sheridan passed away at Shervidan Memorial Hospital on Friday September 25, 2026, with her family at her side.
She was born on February 22, 1932, to parents George Rucki Jr and Ruby Mae (Haven) Rucki in Sheridan. She joined siblings Charles Rucki, George Ruckie Jr II, Susan Rucki (Hajek) and was later joined by Evelyn Rucki, Marie Rucki (Connell), Pauline Rucki (Benton), Ed Rucki and Ronnie Rucki. She attended grades 1-8 in Ulm WY and graduated from Sheridan High School class of 1950.
In May of 1950 she married Gerald E. Pierce and they made their home in Bay Horse Montana where they farmed, ranched and worked for the U.S. Postal Service as rural route carriers from Bay Horse Montana to Recluse Wyoming which was a 60-mile trip that they did twice a week, rain or shine. Margie also taught at the Bay Horse school for one year, there were three students enrolled from grades 2 to 5. While living in Bay Horse they added five children to their family, Carol, Dusty, Anita, Angeline, and Jeri.
In 1970 they moved to Sheridan where they bought a small ranch on Big Goose. Margie worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Sheridan Memorial Hospital and later worked in the laundry at the V.A. Hospital where she did alterations for many of the patients’ clothes and uniforms.
Margie was an accomplished leather worker and made many belts, wallets, and purses. She also was a 4H leader teaching many children leatherwork. She always had a large vegetable garden and loved doing yard work and doing any type of work outside. Margie was a very accomplished artist and has many paintings around the country.
She was a great cook and was known throughout her family and friends for her fried bread and homemade noodles, which was expected at every family gathering. Margie loved skiing in the Big Horn Mountains and loved travelling whenever she got the chance. She traveled to the east coast from New York to Tennessee (even went to Dollywood), the west coast to Washington and Oregon and in the south all the way to Mexico and even made it to the state of Hawaii.
She loved taking care of her grandkids and great grandkids, always teaching them a craft or a song. They all have many fond memories of staying at grandma and grandpas house. Margie always liked listening to Alan Jackson sing, she always said he reminded her of her son Dusty. In 2014 she was the very lucky recipient of an offer from a friend to go on a road trip to the Iowa State fair where she got to see Alan Jackson perform live and for a meet and greet with him. It was a trip she would never forget.
Margie was never one to sit and watch the grass grow; she was always busy helping others. She received the 2011 Unsung Heros Recognition from the Sheridan Press for going above and beyond to ensure the quality of life for others in Sheridan was improved. She also received the Jefferson Award for Public Service.
She volunteered as a senior companion, foster grandparent, volunteered at the senior center and sang in the Sheridan Aires. While living at the Heritage Towers she was known as the cookie lady and was very proud as many people liked her cookies. She had so many people wanting cookies that she enlisted the help of a few friends and they made many dozens of cookies, even taking them to the fire Department, Police Dept, Rocky Mt. Ambulance and Sheridan Memorial Hospital to the let them know their services to the community were appreciated. Margie was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her husband and daughter Angeline Paulson. She is survived by her children, Carol Stewart (Terry), Dusty Pierce (Dawn), Anita Uroszek (Larry) and Jeri Beckwith. Her Grandchildren Mysti Pierce (Chris), Christopher Uroszek (Sabrina), Chalis Bremkamp, Desirae Harmon (Ken), Clinton Ehlenburg, Ashely Butler, Ryan Beckwith, Brandon Pierce (Natasha), Cassandra Ladd (Alex), Tiffany Paulson, and Jessica Paulson. Such a kind and caring lady. She tended the garden at Sheridan Square and did a wonderful job and she had other gardens that she took care of that summer. She was a very special person.
