SMH’s growing concern regarding the ages of COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization

In the last 24 hours, Sheridan County has added another 25  lab confirmed cases to the 3,029 total cases in the county since the pandemic began.

According to COVID-19 Public Information Officer Jennifer Graves, there are currently 169 lab confirmed cases active in the community. There are 65 probable cases active in the community.

Twenty-three patients have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours and currently eight patients are hospitalized suffering from the virus.

Sheridan County has experienced the deaths of 34 residents as a result of the virus.

With the recoveries of a few of the active cases Sheridan Memorial Hospital staff have experienced some reprieve. During a SMH leadership briefing, Chief Executive Officer Mike McCafferty informed the public that hospitals in the region currently have limited openings in the event of a surgical or medical transfer. Billings’ Clinic, Saint Vincent Healthcare and UC Health have all recently opened beds.

McCafferty shared concerns that the ages of the patients recently requiring hospitalization (mostly from the delta variant) vary greatly when compared to the average age of the patients requiring hospitalization during the surge in numbers from the alpha variant.

During the initial stages and case number surges of the alpha variant, most patients requiring hospitalization were in the + 65 years of age bracket and or suffering from underlying or preexisting health conditions. Although there has been no evidence that shows the delta variant makes people more sick, it has proven to spread at a much higher rate. And SMH is seeing patients of varying ages and some that were otherwise healthy individuals.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists Sheridan County’s level of community transmission as HIGH.

I’m very of what the fed pays the hospital and what they pay for each test. However at this point it has become more than that now and people aren’t smart enough to do their own research. In the end this is about crimes against humanity, and all those who are partaking in it and continue to do so will be punished for it. There is such thing called the Nuremberg Code and Nuremberg Trials that obviously these people are ignoring or have forgotten.
