Last Chance to Board: Final Railroad History Tour is August 15

All aboard for one final trip through Sheridan’s railroad history this summer.

Sheridan Community Land Trust will host its final Sheridan Railroad Historic District Walking Tour of the season on Saturday, Aug. 15, beginning at 1 p.m.

The free walking tour explores Sheridan’s historic railroad district and the important role the railroad played in shaping the community. Along the approximately three-quarter-mile route, participants will discover stories connected to Sheridan’s railroad past and learn more about the buildings, people and activity that once defined this part of town.

The tour offers an opportunity to experience local history where it happened, connecting familiar places with stories that can be easy to overlook while passing through the neighborhood today.

The Sheridan Railroad Historic District is tied to an important period of growth and change in Sheridan, when the arrival of the railroad helped connect the community to new people, goods and opportunities.

This is the last chance to board an SCLT railroad walking tour in 2026, so if you have been meaning to join us this summer, now is the time. The tour begins at 1 p.m. on Grinnell Plaza and ends at the historic Sheridan Inn. It is free and open to everyone. Participants should plan for approximately three-quarters of a mile of walking and are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
