Pedestrian Awareness Month
A proclamation was read into the record by Sheridan resident Kate Gladdin during Monday night’s Sheridan City Council meeting proclaiming May as Pedestrian Awareness Month in Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Gladdin’s mother, 65-year-old Julie Fitzsimons died on May 28, 2025 after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at the corner of 5th and Main in Sheridan. During the proclamation, Gladdin said pedestrian fatalities remain at a crisis level nationwide, with more than 7,300 pedestrians killed in U.S. traffic crashes in 2023, one every 72 minutes, and that pedestrians now account for 18 percent of all traffic fatalities.
Gladdin said they have organized a Pedestrian Awareness Walk that will take place Saturday, May 30 at 9:30 am. The two-mile walk will begin at the Historic Sheridan Inn and proceed to Main Street and then loop back ending at the Inn. More information on the walk and how you can register is available here.
