WBC CEO Notes Sheridan’s Economic Foresight

The Wyoming Business Council spent the summer traveling across the state as part of a listening tour designed to hear directly from residents about Wyoming’s economic future. 

The tour included July 16 sessions in Sheridan and culminated in the Team Wyoming Huddle, which drew nearly 600 live participants and 766 registrations. 

WBC Chief Executive Officer Josh Dorrell called into Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the highlight of the WBC stop in Sheridan during a Third Thursday Event in July.

Dorrell said during the huddle participants discussed concerns including housing, workforce shortages, child care and whether residents believe their voices influence the state’s direction. He said the large turnout of Wyomingites was a strong indicator of how much hard working residents of the Cowboy State care about the direction and investments of Wyoming’s economy.

Dorrell said participants also raised concerns about whether Wyoming has enough experienced workers with the knowledge and expertise to address those issues. Participants also questioned how smaller communities can overcome those potential barriers and benefit from solutions, rather than seeing those benefits concentrated in the state’s larger cities.

Dorrell said the WBC has since taken those findings to state lawmakers and will use the public input to shape its strategy, priorities and future economic development efforts.
