The Shriners are a fraternal organization of men dedicated to brotherhood, compassion, and service to others. These men work to support the Shriners Children’s network of nonprofit pediatric medical facilities.

A widely anticipated event, The Tunnel of Terror, is opening the door to a tunnel network of scares and screams at 6 p.m. on Oct. 24 – Oct. 26.

Kalif Shriners Bill Rathburn and Joe Schwartz made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to invite the community to brave the tunnel.

According to Rathburn, The Kalif Shriners Center was built in 1938. The building was often used for stage productions. Included in the construction was a series of tunnels that allowed actors from those productions to move throughout the building freely without disrupting the audience.

The first Tunnels of Terror were organized and operated by Daughters of the Nile, a women’s club affiliated with the Freemasonry. When the Daughters of the Nile were ready to move on from the fundraiser, they didn’t want it to disappear. So they turned the Tunnel of Terror over to the Kalif Shriners Clowns to operate.

Schwartz said the Tunnel wouldn’t be possible without a dedicated team of volunteers and members who embraced the idea both then and now.

Tickets are $5 per person or a family of more than four people for $20. The Tunnel of Terror will be held at the Sheridan Kalif Center located at 145 W. Loucks St. in Sheridan.
