WY Unemployment Numbers Drop In Sheridan/Johnson Counties From November To December 2023

New unemployment numbers from the Wyoming State Department of Workforce Services show that unemployment rates fell in every county in December, suggesting that the state’s labor market is tightening.

The statewide seasonally adjusted rate for December 2023 is at 3.0%.

That’s unchanged from November, and down from December of 2022, when it was at 3.9%.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December 2023 was at 3.7%, which is also unchanged from the previous month, but up from 3.5% in December 2022.

Sheridan County checked in at 2.3% in December, which is down from 2.6% in the previous month, and down from 3.6% in December 2022. 

Johnson County was at 2.6% last month, and that’s down from 2.9% in November, and down from 3.1% in December 2022.

Teton County had the lowest unemployment rate in Wyoming in December at 2.0%, while Big Horn County had the highest rate at 3.3%.

Nonfarm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 8,300 jobs from December 2022 to December 2023.
