Councilman Expresses Concern Over Zoning Change
An ordinance to rezone 26.3 acres at 4250 Yellowtail Drive in Sheridan from a Higher Education District and R-3 Residence District to a B-2 Business District, was approved on first reading by the City Council Monday night. While the ordinance did pass, it did so on a 6 to 1 vote, with Councilman Steve Brantz voting against the rezone. The applicant is proposing to build a church on the property. Prior to the vote, Brantz explained why he would be casting a nay vote.
City Planning Director Kelly Schroeder said the parcel was zoned Higher Education when it was annexed into the City in 2013 with the intent of building a First People’s Center for Education on the property. She added that the original vision of the education facility never materialized and the Higher Education zoning limits what the property can be used for.
