With the new year underway, it was time for new leadership within the Sheridan County Board of County Commissioners.

At the first meeting of 2023, Christi Haswell, who just started her 2nd 4-year term, was selected as the chair-woman of the board.

She says as chair-woman she has no specific goals, but would like the commissioners as well as the planning and zoning department and other boards to be on the same page with communicating and responding to constituents in regards to growth within Sheridan County, in both the short-term and long-term future.

Taking into consideration events that have happened in the past year in Sheridan County, Wyoming, and the rest of the country, Haswell says it’s hard to tell what’s on the horizon for the county.

“It’s unclear right now with the higher interest rates if we’ll see development slow down. Economic development is something that will impact that. Are we still going to have businesses opening up in Sheridan, bringing in more employees in, what’s housing going to look like and how is that all going to balance with the cost of getting a mortgage. So, we’ll see. Time will tell this next year.”

Haswell is a member of the Wyoming Bureau of Land Management Resource Advisory Council, the Northern Wyoming Community College Agricultural Advisory Committee, and the Sheridan County YMCA Board of Directors.
