The Wyoming American Association of Retired Persons or the AARP, is warning those over the age of 50 about some of the scams that are making their way around and may target older people.
The AARP has sent out a warning regarding employment scams, weight loss scams, and how to recognize a Social Security Imposter.
For the employment scam, beware of any job posting that offers a large income with little or no training or experience.
Look out for business offers that are guaranteed to pay off quickly or double your investment, and avoid any job offer which requires you to pay in advance for certification, training or materials.
Most of these jobs are labeled as work from home.
For the weight loss scam, beware of being encouraged to sign up for a free trial.
Be wary of “fast results” or “miracle” products and instead seek advice from your doctor or dietitian.
As for spotting a social security imposter, if the person you are talking to threatens to suspend your social security number, warns you of arrest or other legal action, demands or requests immediate payment, pressures you to disclose personal information, or promises to increase your Social Security benefit, that person might be setting you up in a bad way.
