First Full Week Of July Was Busy For BIA Crow Agency Firefighters

Firefighters on the Crow Indian Reservation were busy last week fighting a number of fires, some of which were caused by careless firework usage.

On the 4th of July, the BIA said firefighters responded to 9 different fires, all of which were less than one-tenth of an acre.

There were 8 more the next day, and three of them were bigger than all the fires from the Fourth combined.

On Thursday (July 7th), a lightning-caused fire started on a ridge south of Thompson Creek, on the east side of the Wolf Mountains.

About one-quarter acre of timber burned, before the blaze was contained.

Firefighters encourage residents to prevent damage from fires by mowing right away all around your place, during cool mornings or evenings.

High temperatures for the next several days are forecasted to be in the mid-to-upper 90’s, and possibly the low 100’s.

Some BIA Crow Agency firefighters are already assisting wildland firefighting efforts in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah.
