Interview with Big Red Showcase Artist Tracy Stuckey
The newest artist featured in the Big Red Showcase at the Ucross Art Gallery is Tracy Stuckey. The showcase is a rotating exhibition series that highlights a former artist-in-residence.

Stuckey was at Ucross in 2023, and talked about his residency there.
He said when he was at Ucross he was there with a smaller group of artistic people, and they were a great group. “They were all amazing people.”
He talked about his artwork, some of which is currently on display in the Big Red Art Gallery.
He said he always enjoyed drawing and artwork since he was a youngster. He added that some kids give it up when they get to school, but he stuck with it.

“I didn’t know what I was going to do with it,” Stuckey said. He added that when it was time to go to college, he felt that was what he wanted to study. He said that was when he really fell in love with art, but he wasn’t sure he could make a living at it. “I’ve been really lucky to say I’ve been able to make a living at it.”
Stuckey’s artwork is full of color, and it is a little different take on the Western landscape and characters. “I sorta fell into doing the work that I’m doing right now. I think a part of it was I didn’t even grow up in the West. I’d never been west until I moved out to go to graduate school in New Mexico.”

He added,
“It was a slow roll, but it became more and more interesting to me.”

All the paintings on display at Big Red are for sale, and his paintings will be on display through February 20. All artwork purchased directly supports the artists, as well as the Ucross mission.
All are welcome to come and see his artwork. Art Gallery and Ucross Cafe hours are Monday – Saturday, 10-4.
