Y Scholarships Allow Everyone the Opportunity to Play
The Sheridan County YMCA’s Give Your Heart to a Child fundraising campaign is an all-hands-on-deck effort by the staff and volunteers that supports scholarships for many children, seniors, veterans and families to participate in YMCA sports, classes, camps, programs and memberships.
The campaign raises funds to support scholarships that can be used by people of all ages who meet the requirements.
Sheridan County YMCA Senior Director of Operations Desiree Pearce and Senior Director of Youth Alicia Knight appeared on Sheridan Media’s Pulse and shared how they have personally seen these scholarships impact members of the community.
Before rising to Senior Director of Operations, Pearce held numerous roles at the YMCA throughout her career. Because one in five members relies on YMCA scholarships for full or partial assistance, she considers leading this campaign to be the most meaningful part of her work.

Knight has dedicated her life to the care and development of children. As an athlete herself, Knight understands the impact being a part of a team has on the self-confidence of not only children, but members of all ages in the Sheridan community. Through the scholarships, she said children and other community members have grown friendships and teammates that will last a lifetime.
