JCHC Taking Precautions for COVID19

In response to the current situation with the COVID19 and with growing concern in Johnson County, the Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo is establishing some precautions at the facility to help protect health workers and the public.

In a message from CEO Sean McCallister on the facility’s Facebook page, he addressed the Johnson County community, saying “COVID19 often has symptoms similar to the flu and include fever, cough and tiredness. However, some people who become infected do not develop any symptoms. Most people recover from the disease without needing special treatment. However, the COVID19 appears to have a higher mortality rate for the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions. This is why we are asking those visiting our buildings to be aware of our efforts to ensure the safety of our patients, residents and staff.”

He went on to say screening restrictions are in place at the hospital, clinic, and the Amie Holt Care Center, which include having staff members at the doors to greet people and ask about risk factors; visitors must wash hands upon entering the facility.

The public is asked not to visit if you have had contact with someone with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID19, or someone under investigation for COVID 19 within the last 14 days; if you are ill with a respiratory illness; or if they have symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath.

Other measures they are taking:

-Limiting the flow of people through their buildings.
-All AHCC outside group activities are canceled as of now.
-Please restrict visits to one family member once per day.
-Visiting will be done in patient rooms only, not in public spaces
-Doctors will be visiting patients in AHCC, instead of transporting them to JCHC for screening as needed.
-All JCHC staff will be screened and sent home if they have signs of COVID-19.
-All patients and residents will have increased health screening daily, according to CDC guidelines.
-As the situation evolves, to protect our most vulnerable population, we may need to tighten these requirements even further. We are closely monitoring the situation.

As this situation evolves in our county, visiting restrictions may change. Please visit our website at www.jchealthcare.com/covid-19-faq for information about COVID-19.

Please check for updates on the website before you come to visit, as the situation is changing rapidly. Please share this information with others who may be visiting loved ones at Johnson County Healthcare Center or Amie Holt Care Center.
