April: Christensen takes helm at SCSD#3

Chase Christensen was hired as the new superintendent and principal of Sheridan County School District #3 on July 1. He replaced Dr. Boyd Brown who has been interim superintendent for the past few months.

Christensen was born and raised in Montana, and attended schools in Cody, Wyoming. He graduated from the University of Wyoming He worked in Wheatland and Torrington schools.

He said he had chosen Sheridan County as a place to move to, and he liked the Clearmont area, saying that the school and community appealed to him.

September: SCSD#3 receives grant funds

Christensen reported on several grants the district received.

There was a GEER II of $22,769.54, approved, which will be used for professional development and wellness programs for staff; The ESSER III grant for $396,432.09 was approved and will help to bolster the curriculum development in the district, professional development for teachers, continued heightened cleaning regimen in the school; The IDEA Part B was approved for a total of $36,584, and it is for services for special education and preschool; The 22-23 Consolidated Grant  of $136,305.50 was also approved, as well as several others.

The district plans to undergo a literacy audit and hire a consultant to help continue the improvement of literacy instruction.

November: Kinskey speaks on School Funding

At the Wednesday November 9 SCSD#3 School Board work session, Wyoming State Senator Dave Kinskey talked to the board about school funding, and the need for more funding.

In a brief interview, he explained the two key points he emphasized to the board.

The second point he talked about was some of the funding challenges smaller schools face. He said that they have a different formula when they can’t spread the costs over thousands of students.

“We talked about modifications we can do to help smaller schools. I am working with Chase Christensen about what the school wants to see in a funding adjustment, and how we can help them down in Cheyenne.”
