SCLT: Soft opening for new section of Red Grade Trail as trail runners learn on separate section

The staff at Sheridan Community Land Trust are excited to open the first portion of the trails being developed for Phase 2 of the Red Grade Trails System.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, SCLT Director of Marketing and Development Chris Vrba told listeners that they may run into the trail construction crew should they take advantage of the trail.

The two new miles of trail do need some traffic, according to Vrba. Foot traffic helps to establish new trail systems and the trek will give patrons 4 miles of trail they have yet to admire.

Currently the trail is open to hiking, biking, walking, running, photography, bird and wildlife watching, yoga and more. Pets are welcome, although horses are prohibited on this current stretch of trail. Equestrian trails in the vicinity are coming soon, according to the SCLT.

The trail climbs to just below the radio tower and then maintains the ridge. At about 2 miles the new trail stops and the route is flagged with caution tape and logs. SCLT is asking those that embark on the new section of trail to not cross the flagging.

Anyone interested to learn more about trail running has been invited to SCLT Discovery Sessions: Trail Running Mechanics Tuesday, August 3 at Red Grade Trails.

This clinic will be led by Dr. Brandon Kelley, D.C., of Sheridan Spine & Sports Medicine for a run on the Red Grade Trails.

Kelly will instruct on the basics of running technique, form, nutrition/hydration and recovery as part of a group run.

Beginner and intermediate runners are encouraged; all skill levels welcome to come learn and run at their own pace.

According to Vrba, brats, beer and beverages will be available after the run.

Attendees are asked to meet at Base Trailhead parking lot at 5:45 p.m. Clinic will start at 6 p.m. Please bring adequate footwear and water supply.
