Sheridan Man Sentenced to Prison for Strangulation
A sentencing hearing was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court for a Sheridan man charged with Felony Strangulation of a Household Member. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
On May 7, 2020, law enforcement responded to an incident at a hotel in Sheridan and soon after their arrival on scene, arrested Robert Babb for the crime of Strangulation of a Household Member. In April, Babb, at a change of plea hearing in District Court, pleaded “guilty” to the charge pursuant to a plea agreement that was reached with the State. A sentencing hearing was held Thursday in District Court where Sheridan County Deputing Prosecuting Attorney Christina White recommended that the Court accept the terms of the plea agreement and sentence Babb to 2 ½ to 5 years in prison.
White pointed to Babb’s extensive criminal history that included a number of convictions related to domestic abuse and a previous conviction of animal cruelty as the reason that Babb serve prison time. Babb’s Defense Attorney, Erin Wardell argued for a split-sentence for her client so that he can continue to seek the treatment he needs for substance abuse and mental health. District Court Judge John Fenn, after much deliberation, sentenced Babb to
2 ½ to 5 years in prison. Babb was given 209 days of credit for time served.
