Woman Dies From Fall Off Of Steamboat Point

A woman is dead after falling off of one of the Big Horn Mountain’s frequently most photographed natural attraction.

According to the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, at about 5:50am on Tuesday, June 15th, a report came in regarding a female in her late 20’s, who had fallen off of Steamboat Point, and the caller was unsure where she was located.

Due to poor cellphone service, the location of the victim was unknown at the time of the call.

Emergency Personnel (Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, Sheridan County Search and Rescue, Dayton FIre-Rescue, Rocky Mountain Ambulance, Sheridan Fire-Rescue, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol) arrived on scene at about 6:30am to begin their search for the victim.

At around 7:15am personnel found the body on the southwest side of Steamboat Point.

It is unknown how the woman fell and the incident is under investigation.

The name of the victim will be released at a later time.

Steamboat Point is approximately 12.7 miles southwest of Dayton on US Highway 14, and has a peak of 7,877 feet.
