cvannoyThe Arvada-Clearmont School board held a special meeting Wednesday night to vote to accept the resignation of Superintendent Charles Auzqui who recently accepted the position of Superintendent of Johnson County District Schools and to discuss steps to be taken to hire a new superintendent for the school.
In a pre-board meeting interview, Auzqui had this to say about the new position.
“I’ve lived in the Clearmont-Buffalo area all my life. Grandpa came from the old country as a sheepherder, my family started out in Buffalo and moved to Clearmont. I attended Arvada/Clearmont school from 1-9th grades, then transferred to Buffalo and graduated as a Bison in 1985.
Auzqui continued his education at Chadron State with a degree in Industrial Arts and Coaching in 1990 with honors.
He was a Junior High Vocational teacher in Wright, Wyoming, as well as coaching wrestling and football.
In 2006, Auzqui had the opportunity to move back to the family ranch in Clearmont, taking a position of principal from 2006-2013, then moving into the superintendent position.
“It’s not an easy leave, my two kids graduated from here, and there is a great educational team here at A/C Schools. However, I feel professionally this a growth opportunity, with more people to help. I will still be an advocate for Sheridan County School District #3 and of the small schools.
During the meeting, board members had these thoughts for Charles, Amy Vineyard, Board Chairman, said she wanted to say “Thank you to Charles for the great job you’ve done here, especially last year during the Covid-19. I wish you all the best in the future.”
Chris Schock, Treasurer, said “You’ve done a tremendous job.”
In Farmer’s presentation, he said the WSBA can help in a number of ways. “They can give expert guidance at a reasonable cost. It provides a process where community has input in the process as well. Hiring a superintendent is the most important job a school board has.”
Chairman Vineyard said that “We need help with the process and these people can give us options.”
Auzqui added, “I just went through the process, so I have some ideas as well.”
Farmer also mentioned that sometimes the board may want to hire an interim superintendent until they find just the right candidate.
“My recommendation is to take time to do the search right – an interim is the best way to go – to take that time. It is important to find someone who can hold the ship steady during the search for a candidate.”
Misty Moore, Vice-Chairman, complimented Auzqui on the great job he did by leaving his position very well organized.
Board adjourned into an executive session at 6:50 p.m.
