Sheridan College will host two free information sessions about the college’s Weekend Welding Certificate programs in the coming weeks.

Both will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, one on March 31 and the other on April 14, in the Tech Center on the Sheridan College campus. Attendees will be able to learn about the program, take a tour, meet faculty and can register for the program onsite.

Registration opens April 13 for the next Weekend Welding Certificate course, which starts July 23 and ends June 4, 2022. The program is designed for working adults, classes are held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with winter break from Dec. 18 through Jan. 7.

Limited spots are available in the classes, which prepare students for entry-level work in welding.

In addition to gaining an overall understanding of welding machines, processes and hands-on proficiency, students in the program develop skills in the areas of print reading, welding symbols, welding inspection and destructive and non-destructive testing. Students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for welding qualification.

The certificate transfers seamlessly to the college’s Associate of Applied Science degree program without loss of credit. According to a news release from the college, scholarship opportunities and housing may be available for interested applicants.

The program started last year, and Sheridan College will graduate the first cohort of eight Weekend Welding Certificate students this spring.

Dr. Walt Tribley, president of the Northern Wyoming Community College District, said the program provides opportunity for those already working in a technical field who want to add to their skillsets as well as those looking to retool for a completely new career.

Those who want more information can go online to www.sheridan.edu or call enrollment services at 675-0115.
