Multi-Agency Response Contains Border Fire
At approximately 3:30 pm on Tuesday, October 6, Tongue River Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a grass fire near Highway 345 in Parkman. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Tongue River Fire was joined by Dayton Fire, Goose Valley Fire, Clearmont Fire, the U.S. Forest Service, Sheridan County Road and Bridge, the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, Sheridan Fire, and several adjacent landowners. The Wyoming Highway Patrol controlled traffic throughout the incident. Tongue River Fire Protection District Chief Jeff Barron explains what ignited the Border Fire.
Chief Barron says they needed every resource they could get as the fire threatened several structures.
Barron said the fire was contained at approximately 6:30 pm.
Barron said the public can help by keeping an eye open for anything that looks like it might escape the fire line by reporting it immediately.
The National Weather Service in Billings has issued a fire weather watch for Sheridan County on Friday due to low relative humidity, unseasonable warm temperatures and strong gusty winds that could create erratic fire behavior for new or existing fires.
