SCSD#2 Board of Trustees Met Monday

SCSD# 2 Board of Trustees met Monday night with several items on the agenda. In her superintendent’s report, Rebecca Adsit talked about the beginning of the school year.

She mentioned that it’s Homecoming Week at SHS, and she shared with the board some of the events associated with that.

She added, “Today, Chairman Rader, Vice-Chair Waddel, Trustee Lansing and I met with the executive student council at the Sheridan high school.”

There were two community members who commented at the meeting. One was Ron Patterson, who approached the board about offering his assistance to do a land swap with the school for some properties in Holly Ponds.

Vice-Chairman Arin Waddel commented that the board was not allowed to talk about real estate in public comments, it all has to happen in an executive session.

Second speaker was Paula Pacheco, who expressed her concerns about the volleyball program at SHS and the impact it is having on the young ladies involved.

She added there were concerns raised about the way the coach disciplined the team members as well. The girls said they felt dismissed when they expressed their concerns about the team.

Waddell said the board cannot discuss personnel in a public setting; it is something to be addressed in the executive session.

Facilities director Troy Decker reported on the work that was done on Woodland Park School’s exterior panels, “It looks awesome,” he said, and added that they were very satisfied with the contractor who did the work.

He also talked about the proposed addition to the district greenhouse complex, which will consist of adding bathrooms, storage areas, a new entrance and an office area.

Kristie Garriffa, assistant superintendent, gave a SCEF update.

In other business, the board moved to appoint Sarah Mikesell Growney and Kyle Warnke to the Sheridan Recreation District Board.

Transportation director Shawn Stevens asked for the board to approve the disposal of an old school bus, and to approve to replace three buses as well as three multipurpose vehicles. The board approved the disposal and the purchase of replacement vehicles.
