Buffalo Mayor Proclaims September as Hunger Action Month

Mayor Shane Schrader has proclaimed September as “Hunger Action Month” in the City of Buffalo and encouraged residents to increase their awareness and understanding of food insecurity and how it impacts the nation, states, counties, and communities.

Mayor Schrader spoke during the meeting.

Schrader said over 1,200 individuals in Johnson County, or roughly 14% of the population, are estimated to currently experience food insecurity.

He added that the Food Bank of Wyoming has distributed more than 12 million pounds of food to Wyomingites experiencing food insecurity in 2025 through a network of agency partners, food pantries, and other agencies and programs.

Jenna Noelle, representing the Food Bank of Wyoming, spoke about the issue of food insecurity.

Noelle finished by saying the Food Bank can’t do all of this alone, and asked residents to “do their part,” by donating, volunteering, speaking up, supporting the local food pantry, helping at their church’s food pantry, or just learning about food insecurity in the local community.
