County authorizes dates for private fireworks
With the Fourth of July just around the corner, Sheridan County Sheriff Allen Thompson reminds residents that private fireworks are permitted outside of Sheridan, Clearmont, Dayton and Ranchester starting July 1, through July 7.
The use of any fireworks on county roads is strictly prohibited, Thompson said.
Fireworks can be used on private property, with permission of the landowner. Although no fire ban has been put in place for Sheridan County as of yet, that status can quickly change, Thompson said. Checking the current status of any possible fire ban will prevent fires and possible citation.
The use of fireworks is prohibited between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Thompon said.
Other restrictions prohibit fireworks from being used within 50 feet of any occupied structure. Occupied structure means a structure or vehicle where a person lives, conducts business or any other calling whether or not a person is present.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Thompson reminded residents that permits are available should they wish to use fireworks outside of the designated dates.
Fireworks are also prohibited on all lands or easements owned by Sheridan County and its agencies and departments.
