Hospital Marks Patient Safety Awareness Week March 8
Policies and practices to ensure safety among patients and staff remain a top priority at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Sheridan Memorial Hospital Director of Quality and Specialty Service Tommi Ritterbusch and Regulatory and Safety Specialist Grace Stump recently appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak about Patient Safety Awareness Week.
Sheridan Memorial Hospital marks Patient Safety Awareness Week annually. The week allows SMH leadership and staff to highlight their commitment to keeping patients safe not only while they are in the hospital, but also after they return home from a visit or extended stay.
Ritterbusch said this year Patient Safety Week will begin March 8. While safety is a priority for everyone, she said there are a few “safety superstars” who help improve outcomes through keen observation, suggestions and best practices.

Through recognition of staff members who place safety at the forefront of every task and patient interaction, the hospital reinforces its commitment to making safety a critical component of daily operations. It also recognizes those who develop practices or policies that improve overall safety within the facility.
Patient surveys also play a key role in maintaining quality of care and safety standards. Ritterbusch said the surveys serve as a primary tool to ensure those principles are being implemented and to recognize staff members who take initiative.
