A Sheridan man has been nominated as one of Wyoming’s top volunteers that are older than 50.

Wayne Schatz of Sheridan is one of three nominees for the AARP Wyoming Andrus Award for Community Service, which is the organization’s most prestigious and visible volunteer award.

It recognizes individuals who are sharing their experience, talent and skills to enrich their communities in ways that are consistent with the AARP’s purpose, vision and commitment to volunteer service, and that inspires others to volunteer.

Schatz spent 6 years on the AARP Wyoming Executive Council and is a member of the Sheridan Community Action Team.

He is also a member of the board of trustees within Sheridan County School District 2.

Schatz has coordinated numerous AARP activities such as the Movies for Grown-ups series, and the Souper Bowl food drive in Sheridan County.

The other nominees for the award are Bernie Horst of Albany County and Ed Strader of Cheyenne.

The AARP is asking the public to vote for their favorite finalist by liking and sharing a video of a nominee that can be found on the AARP Wyoming Facebook page.

Voting ends this Friday (October 7th).

The winner will be named at the AARP Wyoming’s Volunteer Banquet in Casper next week.

AARP Wyoming will make a $500 donation to a non-profit in the name of the person who wins the award.
