The effects of flooding that took place in Yellowstone National Park back in June, continue to take a toll on monthly visitation numbers.

The park reports in August 2022, there were more than 582,000 recreational visitors.

That’s down 37% compared to August 2021, which was the busiest August on record, with almost 922,000 visitors.

The August 2022 numbers are also down 29% compared to August 2019 (820,006), which is before the covid pandemic started.

Year to date numbers show that there have been more than 2.44 million visitors as of the end of August 2022, which is down 32% compared to the end of August 2021 (3.59 million).

The North and Northeast entrances to the park remain closed as road repairs continue and park officials say they estimate reopening them with a temporary road in the middle of October.

The West, South and East entrances are scheduled to close for the season on November 1st.
