It’s been one year since voters in Campbell County decided to have Gillette College separate from the Northern Wyoming Community College District and form its own district.
Since then work has been on-going to legally transfer many items from Northern Wyoming to Gillette.
Earlier this week, both districts approved a memorandum of understanding to transfer interest in property and leases in Campbell County to Gillette College, but not assets and equipment inside those facilities.
Examples of property include the Health Science Center, the Technical Education Center, the Agricultural Complex, the Pronghorn Center, and the rodeo team grazing land.
Once it earns accreditation, Gillette College will pay the Northern Wyoming Community College District $2.8 million over the course of 3 years.
District President Doctor Walter Tribley says once those payments start, it will help the district in some ways, because the district will no longer be receiving revenue from Gillette College.
“This will come at a time that we may be particularly vulnerable financially. We’re doing well, we’re preparing for that day, but this is another piece to that security.”
The Memorandum still has to be approved by the Gillette city council and the Campbell County Commissioners.
