Firefighters that had been battling a forest fire in northwest Johnson County say they are confident that the fire won’t spread anymore than it already has.
As of 5pm Friday (July 29th), incident command reports that the Gem Lake Fire is 100% contained.
Personnel and aviation resources have been released and local crews will patrol the fire during the next few weeks.
The fire was started as a result of a fatal plane crash about 2 weeks ago, and burned about 21 acres of forest.
Just because a fire is contained does not mean it’s out and firefighters say the fire should not spread beyond containment areas that have been established.
