A father and son from Sheridan County will avoid prison time after admitting to causing a disturbance, escaping from custody and stealing a Sheriff Deputy’s vehicle in Washakie County.
Cody Veal was given first time offenders status along with 3 years of probation after he pleaded guilty to one charge of burglary.
If he completes the probation, the felony guilty conviction will be cleared from his criminal record.
He was also fined $500 for pleading guilty to one charge of interference with a peace officer and another $500 fine for pleading guilty to one charge of breach of peace.
Niles Veal was given a 5-to-10 year suspended prison sentence with 3 years of probation, after he pleaded guilty to one charge of aggravated burglary and a current 3-to-6 year suspended prison sentence with 3 years of probation, after he pleaded guilty to one charge of escape by violence.
He was also fined $500 for pleading guilty to one charge of interference with a peace officer and another $500 fine for pleading guilty to one charge of littering.

The court system has failed us yet again. A slap on the wrist for these two does not fit the crime. We are teaching all these young kids that it is ok to break the law, because there will not be any consequences.

Probation? For this? First offense or not that is a ridiculous sentence for the crimes they admittedly committed. It is just a matter of time before they violate their probation and then what? Another slap on the wrist and another deferred prison sentence. What a joke.
