Recently firefighters got some help in a battle against a fire that has been burning for about 1 1/2 weeks in northwest Johnson County.
The US Forest Service says as of Monday (July 25th), the Gem Lake fire has burned about 21 acres of land, but there is no word on containment.
Rainfall on Sunday slowed the fire’s growth, but crews are working to build containment lines with the help of aviation resources.
About 22 firefighters are on scene.
The fire started back on July 14th, after a single engine plane crashed in the area.
Both occupants in the plane did not survive the crash.
