Sheridan College, University of Wyoming launch Future Cowboys express transfer program

Sheridan College (SC) students planning to continue their education at the University of Wyoming (UW) now have an additional direct path from Sheridan to Laramie through a new Express Transfer Agreement (ETA) and Sheridan College’s Future Cowboys program.

The ETA provides participating SC students with a clear academic pathway toward completing their bachelor’s degree at UW. Students in eligible programs receive co-advising from both institutions, allowing them to plan their transfer to UW with support from the beginning of their college experience. Through the program, SC and UW advisers work together to help participating students understand coursework, degree planning and the full transfer process.

“Future Cowboys gives our students another opportunity to begin their education at Sheridan College while already knowing where they are headed next,” SC President Walt Tribley said. “Students can take advantage of the affordability, personal attention and community they find here while building a clear path toward completing their bachelor’s degree at the University of Wyoming.”

The ETA will launch with six SC-defined degree pathways, with more degrees to be added in the future. For the 2026-27 academic year, SC students pursuing pathways in criminal justice, exercise science, plant sciences, psychology, rangeland management and software development may participate in the agreement.

These pathways connect to UW bachelor’s degree programs in criminal justice and criminology; kinesiology and health promotion; physical education teacher education K-12; plant production and protection; psychology; ranch management and agricultural leadership; rangeland ecology and watershed management; and applied software development.

Beyond creating a streamlined academic transition, Future Cowboys is designed to help students begin building their UW community before they arrive in Laramie. Participating students will have opportunities to attend outings to the University of Wyoming for campus events and SC/UW visit days.

“We are excited to expand the Express Transfer Agreement to Sheridan College and continue building pathways for students at community colleges across the state to transfer to University of Wyoming,” University of Wyoming President Shane Reeves said. “ETA helps students arrive at UW academically prepared and connected to our university community, both of which are essential to their success.”

The social component of Future Cowboys will give students the opportunity to meet other SC students who share plans to attend UW, creating connections that may continue after they transfer. Students will enter UW already knowing future classmates, friends or even potential roommates.

“We want the transition to UW to feel like the next step in a student’s journey rather than starting over somewhere new,” Tribley said. “Future Cowboys allows students to build those relationships early while receiving guidance from both institutions to make sure they are prepared academically when it is time to transfer.”

The ETA program is in addition to existing academic partnerships with UW whereby students can work toward their four-year degrees in agriculture, dental hygiene and nursing while at SC.
