SCSD#1 Board Hears Presentation About BHHS

At the Tuesday, September 15, SCSD#1 board meeting, the board welcomed the new student representatives from both schools in the district, Drake Martinson from BHHS, and Luci Raymond from TRHS.

They also heard a report from Big Horn High School Principal Ryan Fuhrman.

Fuhrman is starting his second year at BHHS. He said being a principal of a high school is complex.

He mentioned about how different the staffing was this year as opposed to the previous years. He said they hired four new teachers, and only one is a high school only teacher. The principals of the high school and the middle school had to merge teacher schedules, so many teachers have to teach high school and middle school. He said he had six high school staff, and they are sharing nine staff with middle school.

One big change this year, Furman said, was the cell phone policy for the students, which is during the hours between 8 and 4, cell phones in lockers, they can be checked during passing periods, and no phones in bathrooms.

He talked about a new use of down time for the students.

Last year, Furman said BHHS had the motto, “We Kinda Dominate Everything We Do.” This year they changed it to, ‘Excellence in all Things.’

He added how well the sports teams had done last year, and that they also excel in things that aren’t given banners. He also mentioned the new FFA chapter which was started in Big Horn last year.

Superintendent Dr. Jeff Jones commented on Furman and Lawson’s work coordinating teachers and staff.

Student representatives Drake Martinson, BHHS, reported to the board that the student council has everything set for BHHS Homecoming, the parade will be on October 15. He added that they have auctioned off four parking spots in the parking lot, and the student council raised $682 off that. He said now one student is planning to pursue a career as an auctioneer.

Luci Raymond, TRHS representative, said that the musical this year is ‘How to Train your Dragon,’ and it will be an extravagant show. She added that TRHS homecoming will be on Oct 12-17. “The theme this year is ‘Homecoming’ with an emphasis on ‘HOME.’ The SC goal is to facilitate community involvement.”

Board Chairman Clint Krumm asked the students what they felt of the cell phone policy, and they felt it was a good thing to have cell phones in the lockers; it led to more face-to-face communication between the students.

In his administrator’s report, principal Brad Gregorich talked about BHES and he noted that they elected student council members for the fourth and fifth graders, and they gave some incredible speeches. He said they also had a 9/11 program in remembrance of those who died in the attack.

In his business managers report, Jeremy Smith said they still need three bus drivers.

Clint Krumm and Trustee Morgan Stalick will be the delegates to the Wyoming School Board Association conference. The board also approved the 2026-27 bus routes in the district.

Trustee Stalick also reported that the groundbreaking for the Big Horn Recreation & Early Learning Center will be on Thursday, September 17, at 8:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
