SCLT Explore History to Offer Goose Creek Walking Tours

Big Goose Creek has helped shape to Sheridan and the people who have called this valley home. Learn more about how the creek was important to the settlers who first came to Sheridan during two upcoming SCLT Explore History walking tours.

The first tour will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and the second will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

SCLT Director of History Kevin Knapp will lead participants through historic downtown Sheridan, exploring how Big Goose Creek served as an essential natural resource for the valley’s early inhabitants, from the settlement era to the community we know today.

Along the way, participants will learn about the Big Goose Creek Buffalo Jump, Sheridan Brewery, Sheridan Manufacturing Company Flour Mill, the Mandel Cabin, and Sheridan’s first cabin, along with other stories connected to the creek and Sheridan’s history.

Both tours will meet at The Hub on Smith in Sheridan. The walk is about three-quarters of a mile on paved sidewalks. Attendees are urged to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

The SCLT Explore History programs are free to attend and open to all. No registration is required.
