On March 16, Killy’s Smokehouse, Liquors and Irish Pub will host a St. Patrick’s Day Party which will be rather bittersweet for the Killworth family. Sheridan Media sat down with Cindy Boyd, Logan Killworth and Mary Guyer to talk about Killy’s and the upcoming event.

Killy’s started in 1968 as a grocery store, The Warehouse Market. Pat Killworth and his brother, Tom, were both ‘grocers’ almost from birth. Their father, Logan, worked in the old-time grocery store, Sawyers, which was located on Broadway in Sheridan.

Grandpa Killworth started all his sons working in the grocery store with him. One of the boys was assigned the ‘very scary’ basement where the bananas were ripened by using hot and cold steam. Occasionally he was surprised by a snake or a tarantula which were common in bananas at the time.

Logan’s sons, Pat and Tom moved from Sheridan to Montana for a few years. According to Pat’s son, Logan, they

The Kilworth brothers came back home to Sheridan and opened Warehouse Market. Cindy and Logan explained about when they first started the grocery store.

Although most of the employees were family, there was one man that they all remembered very fondly, who was with them for many years.

The Warehouse Market evolved and changed with the market trends, in 2002 they added the world-famous Killy’s Smokehouse Deli to the business.

Pat and his wife Margie had six children: Cindy Boyd, Susan Holder, Logan Killworth, Mary Guyer, Candace Killworth, and Shelly Gustafson. All have worked in the business when it was Warehouse Market as well as Killy’s, making it a third-generation business.

The deli started out very small, with only one table, one case, and a few employees. When the deli started, two of the owners, Logan Killworth and Mark Guyer, Mary’s husband, headed off to school in Kansas, where they learned the fine art of smoking delicious meats.

They brought back their knowledge and applied it, first creating their trademark baby back ribs. They were an instant hit. Logan and Mark began crafting many other different kinds of seasonings for meat and poultry.

When a liquor license came up in Sheridan, they applied for it and decided to reinvent themselves. Mary added that the license application was approved on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day 2015.

The Warehouse Market was well-known in Sheridan for many years.

Killy’s also does catering and the Killworth family will continue to do catering until July of 2024. Mary said that some families call them for their third generation of weddings for Killy’s to cater.

Logan, Cindy and Mary said they wanted to

The Killworth family is of Irish origin, so an Irish Pub was a natural for them. The name, Killy’s comes from their father, whose nickname was Killy. However, as Mary and Logan mentioned about the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day Party,

The Killworth family will continue to run Killy’s liquor, and Logan will continue to work there, but they will no longer be a part of the deli or the Pub.

Everyone is invited to join in the St. Paddy’s Day fun. There will be live music, the Kasper Haley Boxelder Stomp band from Casper will play.

Oh wow, I am so glad you guys are going to get to slow down a bit. I came there almost everyday for 20 years, picking up catering orders for Spring Creek Coal. I recommend retirement to anyone who can afford it.
