Morning Sports: February 2, 2026
The calendar now says February and that means winter sports contests are becoming more important.
Sheridan County HS Basketball: The Sheridan High School boys and girls basketball teams swept games at home vs. Campbell County and at Thunder Basin this past weekend.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs will start their 2nd run through the 4A East Conference this weekend at home vs. Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central.
The Big Horn boys and girls swept road games against both Wright and Rocky Mountain.
The Tongue River boys and girls went a combined 1-3 over the weekend in games at home vs. Moorcroft and at Greybull, with the Lady Eagles getting the win at home on Friday.
This coming Thursday, it’s Round 2 as BH visits TR.
The Arvada-Clearmont boys dropped both games over the weekend at home vs. Casper Christian and at Ten Sleep
The A-C girls won their lone game of the week on Friday.
Both the Panthers and Lady Panthers are scheduled to play on Friday at Kaycee and on Saturday at Midwest.
Johnson County HS Basketball: Buffalo lost both games at Powell, but won both games at home vs. Worland.
The Bison and Lady Bison are scheduled to play on Friday at Wheatland and on Saturday at home vs. Torrington.
Kaycee ended up going 0-4 over the weekend losing games at Hulett and at Upton.
The Buckaroos and Lady Bucs next play Friday at home vs. Arvada-Clearmont.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Wrestling: The Ron Thon Tournament in Riverton was held this past weekend.
The event is considered a preview of the state tournament, and 2 wrestlers from Sheridan ended up winning their weight bracket.
Keegan Rager won at 165 pounds and Braxten Crow won at 175 pounds.
The Broncs finished 10th in the team standings, while the Lady Broncs were 6th.

Sheridan/Buffalo HS Boys Swimming and Diving: Sheridan finished 8th at the Cheyenne Invitational while Buffalo won their own home meet.
This weekend is the conference meets.
The 4A East meet is at Gillette, while the 3A East meet is at Newcastle.
Sheridan HS Nordic Skiing: The meet that was scheduled to take place at Cody this past weekend, was moved to Jackson due to poor trail conditions.
On the girls side, Kayley Alicke of Sheridan was 3rd in the 5 kilometer freestyle race and was 2nd in the 10 kilometer classic race.
Nordic Skiers are scheduled to compete again this weekend on Casper Mountain.
Sheridan Hawk/Lady Hawk Amateur Hockey: The Sheridan Hawk boys won both games at Cody and both games at home vs. Laramie over the weekend.
The team will conclude the regular season this weekend at Riverton.
The Sheridan Lady Hawks won both games at home vs. Laramie
The team does not play again until the weekend of February 20th, 21st and 22nd.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks split games this past weekend at Helena, thus the team is still in first place by 2 points in the standings.
The team returns home this weekend to play Gillette on Friday and Cody on Saturday.
University of Wyoming Men’s and Women’s Basketball: Round 1 of the Border War was won by the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday 68-57.
The Pokes led wire-to-wire, largely in part to draining 12 3’s, compared to 4 for the opposition.
UW also got to the free throw line more times, as the team was 18-of-24 from the charity stripe…most of which took place in the 2nd half.
Khaden Bennett led the way for the brown and gold with a double-double…24 points and 10 rebounds.
Damarion Dennis came off the bench to put in 16 and Leland Walker added in 10.
The Cowboys are now 13-9 on the season and have a 4-7 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The next game is this coming Tuesday at San Diego State.
The Wyoming Cowgirls had their 4-game win streak snapped on Saturday, as they lost at Grand Canyon 57-47.
Neither team shot all the well, especially behind the arc, as UW only made 3 long balls, and the opposition made 7.
Malene Pedersen was the lone Cowgirl to score in double figures as she put in 20.
UW’s record is now 8-13 on the season, with a 5-7 record in the conference.
The team next plays this coming Wednesday at home vs. New Mexico.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets split weekend home games, winning on Friday against the LA Clippers 122-109, but lost last night against Oklahoma City 121-111.
The Nuggets are next scheduled to play tomorrow at Detroit.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won on Saturday at Detroit 5-zip.
The Avs and the Red Wings are scheduled to rematch each other today in Denver.
The puck drops at 7pm.
