Sheridan County High School Sports Year In Review 2022

Sheridan County High School Sports teams had a lot of success in 2022, and won their share of state championship trophies.
Basketball:
The Sheridan Boys Basketball Team put together a record of 19-8, qualified for the state tournament, but lost in the 3rd place game in triple overtime against Kelly Walsh.
The Sheridan girls were 12-10 on the season, and missed out on the state tournament by 1 game.
The Big Horn boys basketball team had a record of 16-11 and were 2A State Runners-Up, losing to Pine Bluffs in the championship game.
Things did not go well for the BH girls as they won only 2 of 23 games, and did not make it into the state tournament.
The Tongue River boys basketball team was 24-4 on the season, and won the 3rd place game against Wind River.
The TR girls were 12-17, and fell against Riverside in the consolation championship.
Both teams at Arvada-Clearmont did not qualify for the state tournament.
The boys went 0-20 on the season, while the girls were 7-13.
Wrestling:
In wrestling, Sheridan placed 3rd at the state meet.

The Tongue River wrestling team tied with Hulett for 16th and 17th.
Boys Swimming:
The Sheridan Boys Swimming and Diving team finished the season 4th at the state meet.
Indoor Track and Field:
In Indoor Track and Field, the Sheridan Boys 4-peated as state champs winning 8 events along the way.
Carter McComb set a new state record in the 55 meter dash, and the 1600 meter sprint medley relay set a new state record as well.
The Sheridan girls were 3rd and won 1 individual event.
Soccer:
The Sheridan boys soccer team went 15-5 on the season, and finished as state runners-up, losing to Jackson in the state championship game.
The Sheridan girls were 12-7-1 and defeated Cheyenne East in the consolation championship.
Outdoor Track and Field:
The Sheridan boys repeated as state champs, winning 7 events in the process.
Texas Tanner was named the Gatorade Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
Both he and McComb were later named finalists for the Milward Simpson Award.
The Sheridan girls were 4th, and won 1 event.
The Tongue River boys won their first outdoor track and field state title since 1985 and 7 events along the way.
The TR girls would repeat as state champs, by winning 2 events at the state meet.
The Big Horn boys track and field team were state runners-up, and won 2 events at the competition.
The BH Girls were 5th and won 3 events of their own.
New Sheridan High School AD:
The Don Julian era at Sheridan High School ended.
Kasey Garnhart took over as Activities Director on July 1st.
Sheridan Troopers Baseball:
The Sheridan Troopers put together a 42-14 record in 2022 and hosted the AA State Tournament.
Football:
The Sheridan Bronc Football Team repeated as state champs with an undefeated 12-0 season. Click here to see championship game highlights
In the semi-final game, Colson Coon set a Wyoming 11-man football single game rushing record with 517 yards. Click here to see highlights
The Big Horn Rams arguably had the most exciting and most dramatic moment of the year in the 2A State Championship Game.
Trailing 7-nothing against Lovell, the Rams were facing 3rd and 10 from their own 39 yard line, with 20 seconds to go and then this happened.
That made the score 7-6 with 11 seconds left on the clock.
BH then decided to roll the dice.

The Tongue River football team put together a 7-2 season, and made the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Volleyball:
Sheridan had a record of 8-23 and did not make it to the state tournament.
Big Horn put together a record of 30-9, but had to settle for the state runner-up trophy.
Tongue River’s record was 17-18-2, but they turned it on late in the season, and ended up finishing 3rd at the state tournament.
Arvada-Clearmont went 9-16-1 on the season, and missed the state tournament by one game.
Golf:
The Sheridan boys placed 6th as a team.
Brock Owing with the 4A Boys State Runner-Up.
The Sheridan girls brought home the runner-up trophy.
Samantha Spielman won her second state title in 3 years.
The Tongue River boys golf team placed 4th and the girls were 3rd.
Tennis:
The Sheridan boys placed 6th at the state meet, while the girls were state runners-up.
Mia Rabon and Alli Ligocki won the state championship in girls #1 doubles.
Cross Country:
The Sheridan boys were 5th at the state meet…the girls were 3rd.
The Tongue River boys placed 3rd, while the girls were state runners-up.
The Big Horn boys finished 4th.
Girls Swimming:
In girls swimming, the Sheridan Swimming and Diving team were 6th at the state meet.
New Sports:
December marked the debut of Nordic skiing at Sheridan High School, and girls wrestling at Sheridan and at Tongue River.
