Sheridan HS Football: The big high school football matchup was in Sheridan Friday night and it lived up to the hype.

After trailing 14-nothing, Sheridan would eventually get it together.

Senior Colson Coon scored ran for 228 yards and scored 5 touchdowns, plus Dane Steel had a 93 yard kickoff return for a score, as the Broncs would defeat Cheyenne East 42-to-39, to remain undefeated, and give the Thunderbirds their first loss of the season.

After the game Sheridan Head Coach Jeff Mowry said he was pleased with how the Bronc offense was able finish the job and run out the clock unlike the previous 2 games.

Jeff Mowry

“We you get in that situation offensively, we’ve got to go get it done and their really bode their necks and did a great job. Understood the scheme. We took advantage of their aggressiveness a couple of times and got some jump offsides calls that were huge, and so really pleased with the way the guys came out and executed and like we always do.”

Mowry adds the key to beating East was to give the Thunderbirds a long field to work with and make them play 4 quarters, which are 2 things they weren’t used to and it eventually wore them down.

Jeff Mowry

“We said if we make them drive the field, they’re going to get tired. They’re used to having big play scores. We’ve got to make them drive the field. I think we did a pretty good job of that.”

The Broncs next game is this coming Friday at Kelly Walsh.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.

Tongue River HS Football: Tongue River would give up a kickoff return for a score against Torrington, and found themselves down 13-to-7 in the second quarter, but then they would take over for good, scoring the last 41 points unanswered, to win 48-to-13 and remain undefeated.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost 2 out of 3 at the LA Dodgers over the weekend…losing on Friday 10-to-1, and Saturday 6-to-4, but won yesterday 4-to-1.

Normally yesterday would have been the end of the regular season, but because of the lockout, a number of games were postponed, and the first 3 games of the season are now the last 3 games of the season, which is why every team is playing today, tomorrow and Wednesday.

It just so happened the Rockies were scheduled to start and finish the regular season at the LA Dodgers, and because the postponement…a 3-game series at LA, became a 6-game series instead.

First pitch tonight is scheduled for 8:10.

Colorado is 66-and-93 on the season…44 games behind the Dodgers for first in the NL West…and are assured of finishing in last place in the division, regardless of what happens tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday.
